It happened once before…

Those wacky kids from PeoriaIts official- the Coachmen got back together for another reunion. We had too much fun reconnecting last summer in Peoria. This time it was in Santa Fe another one of Dan’s old haunts.  We rented a house outside of the city with great views of the mountains. There we set up in the living room and jammed for three days. That first night while playing acoustic guitars and singing next to a roaring outdoor fireplace, we noticed a raven that kept flying close to the porch soaring and catching the thermals. Dan? The raven continued to soar above us all weekend.

Tom put together a great collage of music and photos from the event.

Thank you very much for sharing! It looks like it was wonderful! Great place for stiring up the Universe and seeing what shakes out.

Those vintage photographs of the Coachmen are just so funny and kitschy! (Omigosh! Those BOOTS!) (I’m sure Dan might be horrified at me saying this, but, he kind of looked like Robbie Benson in a few of them…)

P.S. It’s Maine and it’s summer, and we MISS you Dan. As always, johnnyfloyd, thanks for sharing your thoughts and memories. Thank goodness you have a big heart and a big head (for all the memories, that is).

Great to watch and listen to. Great job! And yes, I bet that raven was Dan, “as the raven flies.”

    Jon,

Im confused as to why you thought the raven circling in Santa Fe was Dan. Perhaps you could write more about that in your blog next month.

Hi Jon, I was thinking about Dan’s many references to birds. From birds named in song titles (crow, raven, phoenix, etc) to the word “bird” in so many lyrics, to feathers in both album and personal artworks, photos, etc. To his final song, (his SWAN song, as my hubby says) in his cover of “Birds” Why was this? Was it because of his name of Mountain Bird? I want to one day go thru all his lyrics and do a count of every bird! You mention in this blog how a raven was flying around outside that day – do you feel that there is a connection too, maybe more so than just the connection to As the Raven Flies? Would love your thoughts on this. Thanks, Michelle
